In the last few years, Artificial Intelligence, or AI, has been integrated into basically everything in the online world. Helping in many aspects of different jobs and communities, AI is the talk of the moment. Though it may have many good qualities in the medical field, research, arts, etc., the elephant in the room needs to be addressed. If AI can do everything humans can and better, what does it leave for us?

Though intended as a tool in a group project, AI has become so powerful it may as well be the entire group in the project. Distinction between what is AI and not was easy in the beginning, but with every day that goes by it gets harder to identify. Because of this, information received around the world has become skeptical. The online world is even less trustworthy than it was before and the real world is suffering from it.
AI as a tool
The integration of fast and smart intelligence into people’s lives has helped them make life easier. Because AI is not human, it is able to achieve things with near-perfect accuracy, impressive speed, and provide 24/7 support. On top of all this, it reduces the costs of tasks by taking on labor that would be directed to a human. Who wouldn’t want that?
With the limitless wormhole of information that is the internet, AI is able to deliver an accurate answer to basically any question. It has been known for helping farmers improve their crop yield based on their specifics, create art, assist in the medical field, and even aid students in their daily lives.

Moreover, AI hit the healthcare field extremely hard. Helping keep thousands of lives safe and providing quick ways to cure diseases, this is a clear example of where AI help has been extremely beneficial. This infographic above by HealthLeaders clearly shows this benefit.
AI Usage out of line
With this large integration of AI into everything there is no need to acquire any skills anymore! Or is that really what should happen?
I have seen many people become so addicted that they no longer know how to solve basic problems by themselves. Because of its precise, fast, and understandable answers, asking AI has become their first instinct. How badly can that affect the developing brain of a child?
If AI is doing your thinking for you, whether it’s through auto-complete or whether it’s in some more sophisticated ways, as in ‘I’d let AI write the first draft, and then I’ll just edit it,’ that is undercutting your critical thinking and your creativity. You may end up using AI to write a job application letter that is the same as everybody else’s because they’re also using AI, and you may lose the job as a result.
– Harvard Professor Christopher Dede
In addition, AI has not only been affecting the way young people develop but also the job industry. With its ability to perform the tasks humans depended on to feed their families many times faster and more accurately, AI has caused many to be without their jobs.

In conclusion, AI has clearly come to stay and there is likely nothing that could completely rid us of it now. But even though that might sound like a bad thing to many jobs and a threat to the new generation’s intellect, it might not be as bad for the healthcare field. Because of this, it is important that we find a way to embrace this new AI technology, create laws and rules to keep it under our control as a tool, not as our guide.
