Have you ever wondered how different sports teams train during their off season? Some may workout, and some may not do anything but we’re gonna see what people do to stay in shape while they are not on the field. I’m going to interview girls lacrosse, softball, and baseball.
Girls Lacrosse
Girls Lacrosse is a big thing at Cherokee High school and I’m going to talk to two girls on how they train during the off season.
Interview 1- Hattie Spell. How do you train in the off season of lacrosse?
Okay, so in the off season I play for a travel team and I have a trainer and we train like every two weeks on a Sunday, and I play in my yard a lot.
Looks like Hattie is very dedicated and loves the sport. She also mentions her travel team when she is not playing for Cherokee, which is a great way to train.

Interview 2- Abby Tyler. How do you train in the off season for lacrosse?
I usually practice with some friends at the park or I use my rebounder to work on my left hand passes, or I join a new sport to get in more conditioning.
It sounds like Abby is working really hard during the off season and gets in some training with different sports.

Softball
Softball is a big part of the sports program at Cherokee and I’m going to interview 2 people one from the Junior varsity team and one from the varsity team.
Interview 1- Anna Maddox. How do you train in the off season for Softball?
Its a lot of practice on your own time but during school both teams are in the weight room lifting.
After sitting down with Anna who is on the JV team, but is putting in a lot of work to be able to get on the varsity team next season.
Interview 2- Alexa Cutlip. How do you train in the off season for Softball?
I do winter workouts with my team, and I do my own lessons separately like fielding and hitting.
Alexa, is a freshman on the varsity softball team and she put in so much work to be able to accomplish that and as you can see she never stops with training even if it’s freezing outside.

Baseball
Baseball is such a fun sport to watch and it takes lots of time and dedication to get on the team but I interviewed a player who really takes baseball seriously and trains constantly to be a good player.
Interview 1- Breck Anthony. How do you train on the off season of baseball?
In the off season we have to train hard and prepare for the upcoming season. In training we condition, build strength and build endurance. One example of something we did is we paired up with a partner and went to the track, one partner held a 50lb rock while the other did exercises until someone gave up then you switch, we did this until we went around the track 4 or 5 times.
As you can tell from reading that Breck is very dedicated and puts in so much work to be good at his sport. He explained one of the training’s he does and it seems like they really think of the most crazy ways to build up these players strength.

After hearing about how hard all of our athletes here at Cherokee train during their off season you really come to see that they don’t play their sport just for fun but they really take it seriously and train so much. Sometimes being an athlete while doing school at the same time can be hard, but after hearing some of these students explaining their off season training really shows that sometimes little training even while your sport isn’t going on can really make a big difference in your performance in your sport.
