Brat summer might be over, but this school year is all about the “Club Classics.” This year, Cherokee High School’s large variety of clubs are calling all students to participate in super exciting activities and opportunities.
Being a part of a club is something extremely beneficial to the high school experience. Not only do they look great for college, they’re also a great way to form connections with other students and staff and get more engaged with personal interests and hobbies, and even explore more career options.
Although it may seem complicated to join, Cherokee’s clubs are super welcoming and always looking for new members. So, don’t look any further! Here are only some of the clubs available to students at Cherokee High School.
Environmental Action
Environmental Action Club gives students with a passion for helping the environment an opportunity to participate in clean ups around the community, promote recycling around the school, and lead other environmental service projects.
I joined Environmental Action Club after being introduced to the topic more in AP Environmental Science last year. In class, I found out there was a lot more I had to learn about the environment and this club was the perfect place to do it!

Drama Club
Students who want to develop their acting skills can join Drama Club, a club that focuses on all things acting and provides students with opportunities to share their creativity, express themselves, and make new friends.
Drama club is more than just a place for performing—it’s my home, my passion, and my escape. Being the its president is an honor, because I get to lead and uplift a community that means the world tome. The stage has shaped who I am, and sharing that joy with others is what keeps me inspired every day.

Women in Literature
So many students share a passion for reading, and WINLIT provides a space for students to connect over a book, but not just any book. Women in Literature celebrates female authors that is chosen by the students every month, providing important discussions and even service opportunities.
The school was lacking an outlet to celebrate women in the literary world! The club is important to be because it not only promotes female empowerment and inclusion, but also fosters a community!

Friends Club
Friends Club provides a safe space for all special education students to find a place of belonging in our school system through amazing students who go out of their way to be a friend to them. Every year, Friends Club supports these students by participating in events such as Special Olympics and the holiday play that make sure every student gets to be involved.
Alpha Gamma
Alpha Gamma is a service based club that focuses on helping others and making a difference. Alpha Gamma is in charge of running Powder Puff every year, and promotes many different fundraisers and activities to make a change.
National Honors Society
NHS focuses on academics and service, giving honors students the opportunity to come together and make a difference. Although there are some academic requirements, eligible students receive an email invitation that gives them the opportunity to apply.
National English Honors Society
Not to be confused with NHS, NEHS is an english based club that also focuses on giving back to the community, but through reading and writing based activities. Students also get to work in the writing center, making a difference by tutoring and helping other students strengthen their writing skills.
Women in STEM
Women in STEM provides a safe space for women who plan on going into a STEM centered field after they graduate, focusing on science and technology based activities and allowing students to form connections with people who share the same passion.
I’m in Women in STEM because I plan on going into the STEM field. I love that the club encourages girls to pursue their STEM passions and provides fun and educational opportunities to learn about possible careers and teach elementary students.

Spanish Honors Society
Spanish Honors Society is a space for students enrolled in Spanish classes to come together and promote further interest in learning and speaking Spanish. It focuses on community service and offers translating services for local organizations.
Spanish Honors Society gives me an opportunity to help people in our community while improving my Spanish. the work we do is incredibly rewarding and i am beyond proud of the club.

Journalism Club
Last but certainly not least, Journalism Club is a writing based club that allows for students with a passion for writing or photography to come together and write and publish articles for The Warrior Word, as well as help with Cherokee’s magazine.
Students write group articles, share individual ideas, have important discussions, and get to participate in fun activities such as last year’s marshmallow peeps taste test! Journalism Club welcomes any writers and is always looking for new ideas.
