The CHS Varsity Baseball Team claimed the victory in their home game of the season on Monday, February 13 against the Sequoyah Chiefs at Beautiful Warrior Field with a final score of 6-0.
Senior, Tams Mullins, started off the Cherokee bullpen, with a total of five innings, earning the win for the Warriors. Cherokee was able to start their offense off strong with a single by junior, Jackson Bradfield, in the bottom of the first to knock Collin McGhee in for the first run of the game. Bradfield then was able to steal home for the second run, ending the first inning with a score of 2-0.
Relieving for the Warriors, junior, Liam Kirkman, was brought in during the top of the fifth and pitched the final two innings. With the next three innings being consecutively scoreless on both sides, Warriors were able to continue the lead scoring two more runs in the bottom of the fifth: singles by Cooper Isaacs and Jackson Bradfield knocked in the Cherokee base runners.
The final two runs of the game were scored in the bottom of the sixth with a single by sophomore, Jayce Jones, knocking in Caiden Townsend, and a single by Collin McGhee, knocking Jones in.
One ground out and two strikeouts by Liam Kirkman in the top of the seventh later, Cherokee had won 6-0 with winning pitcher Tams Mullins and Liam Kirkman teaming up for the shutout.
