It’s November and that means it’s time to vocalize all you’re grateful for. November is the time of year where we eat all our favorite thanksgiving foods and appreciate all we are blessed with. Whether that’s your friends, family, or goals you’ve accomplished this year.

How Thanksgiving came about
Thanksgiving started as a 1621 harvest feast shared between the Wampanoag people and English colonists in Plymouth, Massachusetts, but it didn’t become a national holiday until 1863 when President Lincoln declared the last Thursday in November a national day of thanksgiving. The tradition was later cemented in 1941 when Congress established Thanksgiving as the fourth Thursday of November.

Thanksgiving traditions
There are multiple traditions that come with this holiday. One of the most present ones is the different foods. Turkey, ham, pies, stuffing/dressing, deviled eggs: all of these foods are pretty common when it comes to this holiday. Everybody gathers around to cook meals and bake special desserts. Whether your favorite part is the various types of meats or the delicious, sweet desserts doesn’t matter because all together it makes up an amazing day. Personally my favorite is pumpkin pie or my aunt’s special banana pudding.

Debate between stuffing vs. dressing
Every family has their own way or version of what they call this specific topping on your turkey and ham. Or you can even eat it by itself, either way it’s delicious. But if you want a real explanation of the difference then here it is. According to Google, stuffing is cooked inside the turkey, while dressing is a similar mixture cooked separately in a casserole dish. Usually the south uses the term ‘dressing’. And the north uses the term ‘stuffing’. All in all though it depends on your household and culture you come from.
