&TEAM: J-Pop’s hidden gem

As a K-Pop and J-pop lover, I listen to a good variety of artists and styles within the genre. While many of my favorite groups are popular, some of them deserve a lot more recognition, in my humble opinion. &TEAM is one of my all-time favorite groups, due to their many unique charms.

&TEAM is a nine-member group formed in 2022 under Hybe Labels Japan. Their group consists of Leaders EJ and Fuma, K, Nicholas, Yuma, Jo, Harua, Taki, and Maki. Ranging from ages 18 to 27 and hailing from a variety of nations and backgrounds, &TEAM is a diverse team and each member brings something special to the table—setting them apart from most boy groups in the current scene.

The group also has a distinct “Werewolf” concept that has continuously developed in their music and content throughout their time as a group. The group was formed on a survival show called “&Audition” which also featured a Werewolf concept that the contestants had to learn to embody.

This concept follows an intricate storyline that was first established in a special Webtoon comic with characters based on each of the members. The story follows their “pack” as they form a strong bond and face their differences to defeat greater common enemies.

Aside from &TEAM’s unique qualities as individual members and as a group, their music also has an unmistakable sound that sets them apart in a great way. While many groups stick to trendy sounds and patterns, &TEAM’s music ranges from emotional ballads to upbeat Pop-Rock and everything in between. One of my favorites at the moment is a new release, “Big Suki,” and one song I will always recommend is their most popular song “Firework” which I consider a true masterpiece.

I could talk about &TEAM forever—all my closest friends know this from experience. Out of all the groups I love, I can confidently say that &TEAM is one of the most talented and entertaining by far. Their latest album Yukiakari comes out on December 18, and I encourage everyone to listen to it, we all know I will be!
