Valentine’s Day is a celebratory day of love, and there are many different ways people choose to spend their February 14th! Journalism Club decided to do a deep dive on all things pink and red, and at Cherokee High School, students have a very special outlook on the holiday.
Where did Valentine’s Day come from?
The history of Valentine’s Day goes all the way back to the ancient Romans, and it wasn’t always a day of love. It is said that on February 14, Roman Emperor Claudius II executed two men named Valentine in the third century. Not necessary an ideal day of celebration!
The Catholic Church honored their death with the celebration of St. Valentine’s Day, creating the day we all know and love today. As the years went on, the holiday gained popularity as Shakespeare romanticized it in his works, and Britain and the rest of Europe caught on.
While there are many different stories about how the holiday came to be, it has, neverthelessc, developed into the special day we all know and love.

A relationship guide: red and green flags
Relationships can be super complicated, and many high schoolers are in need of trustworthy relationship advice. Well, don’t fear! We asked multiple people at Cherokee High School some red and green flags in girls and guys so you’ll know what you’re getting yourself into.
According to some guy students, some red flags in girls are when they are obsessed with their ex and if they have a guy best friend and prioritize him over you. Another red flag in girls is if they don’t take time out of their day to talk to you or hang out with you.
On the brighter side, some green flags in girls are when they aren’t obsessed with their ex, and they are willing to go get food for you. Another green flag is that they’ll take time out of their day to Facetime you and talk to you.
Now, moving on to the guys. A few red flags in guys are when they say they’re interested in you, but when you ask them about hanging out, they try to change the subject. Another red flag is when they’re really controlling, lie a lot, or try to hide the relationship.
Some green flags in guys are when they want to meet your parents, and are emotionally intelligent (willing to express emotions without hiding things). The last green flags in guys are when they’re good listeners and make sure you feel loved.
