Mr. Hall, once a teacher and coach at Cherokee, is now returning to take the lead as principal for the 2023-24 school year. The Warrior Word had the opportunity to sit down with Mr. Hall and interview him about his interests and aspirations.
A Cherokee County local, Mr. Hall was at Woodstock High School prior to Cherokee; when he was at CHS, he taught English in addition to coaching basketball, cross country, and track.
“[I’ve seen the old teams] a little bit over the years, mostly just happening to run into them,” he noted. “I was at Woodstock, so I actually coached against Cherokee there.”

Even as a kid, Mr. Hall dreamed of being a pro-basketball player and played on his school’s high school team. While this ambition “wasn’t a realistic dream job” in his words, coaching has allowed him to still be involved with sports, as well as interacting with the students.
“It’s funny that I ended up in education. I didn’t major in education–I majored in advertising at the University of Georgia. When it came down to it, I was a lot more interested in helping people and working with students.”

The Q&A part of the interview revealed more about Mr. Hall’s personal tastes.
Q: In a world of unlimited money, what would you change about CHS?
I would probably triple teacher salary and hire about 50 more teachers at least. And build onto the building, so we just have room for everyone and space on the schedule.
Q: What was the last concert you attended?
I saw The Cure in June; my wife is a huge The Cure fan, and so we go to concerts together… I had a great time, it was a really great show. I’d love to see the Black Crows, they’re playing in August.
Q: Did you see Barbie and or Oppenheimer?
I did not see either. My wife and daughter saw Barbie… the last movie I saw was Across the Spider-Verse. My son… loves all the Marvel movies, so I’ve seen all of them with him.
Q: What was the last place you traveled to?
I went to Chicago on Spring Break… we saw another concert, a mobster tour, saw the lake, all the buildings and architecture. It was a short trip, but it was a cool city.
Q: Are you a Taylor Swift fan?
I am not. I have great respect for Taylor Swift’s music, but I’m not a big Swiftie or anything.
Q: What are you looking forward to the most in your first year?
Matching more students up to new great opportunities in their future. I want them to go into their life future-ready, not just graduated but have the skills to go into their future.
The Warrior Word is thrilled to welcome Mr. Hall to Cherokee and wishes him an extraordinary first year!
