CHS Varsity Volleyball fights diligently in Sequoyah Classic

The CHS Varsity Lady Warrior Volleyball team played in the Sequoyah Classic on Saturday, Aug. 13, at Cherokee High School. They played and won against both South Forsyth and Starr’s Mill, but fell short against Alpharetta.

The Basics:

In volleyball, a game is made up of three sets. Each set is won by the team to first score 25 points; however, the winner must win by two points. If a team was winning 24-23, they must continue after 25 until one team wins by two. Each turn starts with one player setting, or hitting the ball toward the other team, to begin the set. Each team may only hit the ball three times before hitting it toward their opponents. If one team hits the ball outside of the set perimeters or the ball hits the ground inside their boundaries, a point is awarded to the opposite team.

The Sequoyah Classic:

Cherokee swept the first game against South Forsyth, winning the first set 19-25 and the second 15-25.

Winning the first set 11-25 and the second 14-25, the Warriors swept the second game versus Starr’s Mill, as well.

Cherokee fought hard against the Alpharetta Raiders in their third game of the day, but unfortunately, fell short when they lost the first set 22-25 and the second 25-27.

With Cherokee being undefeated prior to the Sequoyah Classic, the Warriors now hold a 6-1 record.

I would say that this Saturday we played together and we worked through kinks that came into full view midgame. Instead of letting them bring us down, we fought harder to find a solution. Despite losing to Alpharetta, we still played amazing and will continue to get better as the season continues.

I think we did a good job working as a team. We worked hard and gave it our all, but we are working to get better every practice.

As a team we have a lot of team chemistry off the court, so it’s easy to connect on the court. We hope to get better each game.

The team battled hard in their games of the Sequoyah Classic. We are proud of our CHS Varsity Volleyball Lady Warriors for their diligent work.

The Warriors will take on Kennesaw Mountain in their first region game of the season, Aug. 23, at 9:30 p.m. at home at Cherokee. Come out and support your Lady Warrior Volleyball team!
