As students face the completion of their fifth week of school, they also start to encounter the choice to join all sorts of clubs as each unravels for the year ahead. There is an anticipated incline in student participation throughout the clubs this year as Cherokee hopes to promote student life more than ever before in the new building. As a senior who made the late decision last year to join any clubs for the first time, believe me, clubs are those things you don’t want to miss out on and what you should want a head start in if possible. While not everyone is going to have the same outlook on the clubs offered here, clubs are a terrific way to find a cozy community and turn high school into something more meaningful than just a school.

How do students begin searching for clubs they might be interested in?

This is a major source that will directly bring students to all the clubs that Cherokee has to offer. The best part about the clubs here, too, is that the list of them is constantly expanding. If there happens to be nothing that strikes your fancy, there is no reason to fret. Do not be afraid to share ideas that are for the benefit of the students and will help build a stronger community within our school.

What are the most common clubs that students choose to take part in?
While I have not been a member of any clubs for much time here, I do still have my personal favorites that I would gladly participate in again this school year. I was a member of National Honor Society, National English Honor Society, Journalism/Newspaper Club, Student Athlete Leadership Team, and Women in Sports Club. Every single one of these clubs has left a significant impact on me, and I appreciate every opportunity that comes where I can share more about them. I have learned so much about being a part of a community, giving back to it, and developing my leadership skills. I was also able to break out of my shell quite a bit within these clubs as well, which was something that I did not realize I needed. Therefore, to answer this specific question, I would not say there are more common clubs, but there are ones that fit best for certain types of people, which is the most beautiful thing about them.
Overall, I hope your biggest takeaway from this if you are skeptical about getting more involved with your school, is that clubs are the first place you should look for when it comes to finding community and a place of acceptance. There are many benefits to joining clubs, so I recommend researching which ones are right for you and what you think you could leave a positive, long-lasting impact within.
