This fantastic book-adaptation movie really gets into complications with deciphering what is fake and real in relationships. This movie is about Lara Jean and Peter Kavinskys love story. It starts out with Peter and his girlfriend Gen breaking up because she found someone “better” and then it leads to Lara Jean and Peter getting into a fake relationship so Peter can make Gen jealous and get her back and Lara Jean can keep a certain someone away. But to understand more, you need to know the backstory of how this all happened.

How Lara Jean and Peter got into this situation
Ever since Lara Jean was little she has had crushes just like any girl would, but instead of ignoring them or acknowledging them, she wrote letters. Now she didn’t write letters for every crush just ones that are super intense and she doesn’t know what else to do. There are 5 letters total, one to someone from camp, coincidentally one to Peter in 7th grade, another to someone from camp, the fourth one to this kid at her school, and the second one was to her older sister’s boyfriend Josh; I know that sounds weird but she was friends with him first. The letters are addressed and stamped, but obviously she would never send them out. Her little sister Kitty would though. She found the letters and mailed them all. Lara didn’t find out until Josh came walking up to her with the letter in his hand at the same time Peter was talking to her about the letter. She didn’t want her sister to know that she loved Josh, so her and Peter made a deal to fake date, so that in ways it would benefit them both.

They made a list of dos and don’ts for this fake relationship. It was only supposed to last for a few months but as time went on they both realized they enjoyed spending time with each other. And their “fake” feelings became some real ones. Peter realized that he liked Lara Jean more than trying to win his ex back. Lara Jean realized maybe it was a good thing those letters were sent, so she can stop living in books and live more in real life.
