World Water Day: Giving Value to the Waters of our World

In the stream of life, when taken by the current it is sometimes hard to remember how water drives everything we do. And as time flows, water’s importance is forgotten and we stop acknowledging the blessing it is to have it.

Like the running sink, a puddle on the ground, and even the tedious rain we have to face when moving from north to main. All of that is a blessing in our lives. And that is where World Water Day comes in.

While we have enough water to spare, some places do not have such manageability. According to the United Nations:

  • 1.8 billion people in the world do not have access to drinking water from their homes while, causing one out of three households, accounting for the entire world, to depend on women with the task of collecting water from wells as of 2023,(WHO/UNICEF, 2023).
  • Unsafe water and poor sanitation of it is the causation of the deaths of around 1,000 children under five years of age everyday, (WHO, 2023).

If the world was to have no water nothing would function. Crops would no longer grow to feed the humans and animals, rivers would no longer flow to provide life to cities. The beautiful green and blue Earth we live in now would become nothing but endless and lifeless dunes. Then why does water not get all the praise it deserves?

When the well is dry, we know the value of water.

Celebrated on March 22, World Water Day is a way to advocate for those who do not have access to fresh water and highlight its importance in our lives. It was established in 1992 by the UN General Assembly to promote actions to reduce water waste, remind us of our privileges, and encourage empathy for those who do not have the same.

Reminding us in the busy days of life to take care of the hand that feeds us, the World Water Day helps promote ways to reduce water waste. Keeping the idea fresh in your mind, by the time we start to forget it, the day will come around once more to remind us.

Giving to the less fortunate is a critical part of all the promotion. Charities like the ones below encourage people to help those with no access to drinking water, where around $50 frequently provides 1-2 people with water for life! If you have the money to spare, the Warrior Word would happily encourage you to help; even the smallest help is life-changing.

Water is the driving force of all nature.

Helping keep water waste to a minimum is what will keep our precious water safe. Small actions, like turning off the tap while brushing your teeth or buying a water filter, if done by all of us, in the future, will mean the world. Since water keeps us alive, we must help keep it alive as well. Like they say where I am from, Would you spit in the plate you are eating from?
