The game started out unfavorable for Cherokee. Harrison quickly took the lead in the top of the first, scoring four runs. However, despite falling behind, Cherokee quickly rebounded.
The bases were loaded early in the the bottom of the first by Aiden Smith, Nate Courtwright, and Lex Kenney. The first run was scored when a double was hit by senior, Landon Luster, who came up to bat with bases loaded, knocking in seniors, Aiden Smith and Nate Courtwright. Sophomore, Even Holstein, then singled in Lex Kenny. With a sacrifice fly to center by Tyler Presnell, Landon Luster scored another run for the Warriors. Sophomore, Jackson Bradfield, then singled with a line drive to center. Bases became loaded yet again after Hayden Grainger was walked. With Grainger’s walk, the batting order had cycled through, and Aiden Smith was back up to bat. His single knocked in both Cooper Isaacs, base running for Evan Holstein, and Jackson Bradfield, bringing the score to 6-4 with the Warriors leading heading into the top of the second.
With sophomore, Liam Kirkman pitching, the Warriors were able to hold off Harrison from scoring, and the score remained 6-4. After a pop fly to center field, Cherokee’s lead furthered by one when Lex Kenny scored after tagging up. Cherokee was still leading, heading into the third 7-4.

Cherokee continued to hold Harrison off from scoring in the third. In the bottom of the third, a double by Nate Courtwright knocked in Jackson Bradfield. Courtwright then scored after a single from Lex Kenny. After a single to right field by Landon Luster, Kenny scored, ending the inning with a score of 10-4.
After a successful top of the fourth by pitcher and sophomore, Liam Kirkman, the Warriors once again quickly loaded the bases with a single by Max Eichenburger, a single by Hayden Grainger and Aiden Smith being hit by a pitch. Nate Courtwright was then hit by a pitch, walking in Max Eichenburger for a run. Lex Kenny then doubled in both Hayden Grainger and Aiden Smith for two more. Nate Courtwright stole home for the second to last run, with Lex Kenny following close behind with a single from Landon Luster.
With Cherokee leading 15-4, after a successful top of the fifth, and their ability to keep Harrison from scoring, the game was over due to the “run rule”.
The “run rule” for GHSA is ten after five. If one team gets ten more runs than the other, after the fifth inning, the game is over due to the fact that at that point it is highly unlikely the other team will catch up and win.
