CHS softball continues with a twist: slow-pitch softball

By: Madison Bowden

After the 2020-2021 fastpitch softball season ended in October, the slowpitch season began with tryouts on February 22. Last year, the team was able to play a few games but unfortunately, due to the pandemic, the season got cut short.

Slowpitch softball is very similar to fastpitch softball. One of the major differences between the two is how the ball is thrown to the batter. In fastpitch, the pitch is thrown by the pitcher at a faster speed and it is generally very flat. In slowpitch, the pitcher stands farther away from the batter and throws the ball with an arc.

My favorite thing about the season has been watching the players have so much fun!

Coach Carlisle is also the head coach of CHS Fastpitch softball, and when she was asked “What do you like about slowpitch compared to faspitch,” her response was:

“I like that the players get to come okay with the game without all the pressure that comes along with the fastpitch game. They are able to play loose in slowpitch. My hope is the players will see that and take it with them and play loose when they get back on the diamond to play fastpitch.
