Tournament of Champions: Cherokee girls soccer team heads to Jekyll Island

The Lady Warriors soccer team went to Jekyll last week from Thursday to Saturday. This annual trip is a loved one from the soccer players, as any games by the beach would be.

The girls first left Thursday morning and drove the long five hour long down until they landed in Brunswick. The following morning, the team headed to Jekyll Island for a fun day at the beach. A couple of hours later, they played in their first game against North Oconee High School.

The first game was a close, but sadly the Warriors lost 1-0. High winds, hot weather and grass fields were conditions the team had never played in before. They held their ground all game and worked hard, but could not get the ball in the back of the net.

After the game, the Warriors headed off to dinner where they could relax from the long day and eat great food. Saturday morning, the team had their last game of the tournament against Dunwoody High School. Although they lost 2-1, they played well.

Although the team did not have the results that they wanted in the tournament, their overall record for their season is 5-1. This season they have won against Kell, Sequoyah, Creekview, Wheeler, and Woodstock. They lost against Roswell, but kept it tied 0-0 until the last 3 minutes of the second half.
